Charles Shamoun, RN at Henry Ford Hospital, joined the Cane and Able Stroke Recovery Group to share insights on “Taking Back Your Energy: Managing Post-Stroke Fatigue.” In his talk, Charles explored the physical, neurological, emotional, and lifestyle factors that contribute to post-stroke fatigue. He offered practical strategies for managing fatigue, including healthy daily habits and the importance of support from your health care team, care partners, and loved ones. Although the session concluded with an in-depth Q&A, that portion is not included in the video to protect participant confidentiality.

Lunch & Bocce

We kicked things off with an optional lunch, giving attendees a chance to connect over good food and conversation. Afterward, we moved into friendly competition on the bocce courts, using three lanes for lively and spirited play. The atmosphere at Palazzo di Bocce was relaxed and enjoyable, and everyone had a great time.

Go Team Therapy Dogs

Members were treated to a heartwarming visit from Go Team Therapy Dogs. Several dogs and their dedicated handlers joined us to share the mission of their organization and provide comforting, one-on-one time with their well-trained therapy dogs. Go Team trains volunteer handler-dog teams to bring relief, care, and emotional support to people in need. Their teams serve in a wide range of settings—from hospitals and schools to airports and assisted living facilities—wherever a calm, comforting presence can make a difference. The visit was a joyful and uplifting experience for all who attended!

Updates in Elder Law/ Legal Issues to Consider

Attorney Gene Richards gave an insightful presentation titled "Updates in Elder Law: Issues to Consider" to the Cane and Able Stroke Recovery Group. He explained the recent changes to Michigan’s Uniform Power of Attorney and addressed numerous questions from both in-person attendees and Zoom participants—many of which focused on wills and trusts. Using realistic and fictional examples drawn from actual situations, Gene clearly illustrated how specific language can significantly impact legal outcomes. It was an engaging and highly informative session!
